Discover Downtown VE (Vancouver East)

The Downtown neighbourhood in Vancouver East doesn’t have a firm, defining boundary. Rather it’s a vague area which overlaps more distinct cultural and heritage areas. This includes the brick buildings of Gastown, Chinatown and the growing density along False Creek towards that iconic spherical landmark known as Science World. Downtown VE also borders on the growing neighbourhood of False Creek Flats.

Cultural Attractions in Downtown VE

Downtown VE’s overlap of cultural districts like Gastown, Chinatown and the entertainment venues in False Creek allows the area to have a surprising amount of cultural attractions in close proximity to residents. For instance, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is a world-famous Vancouver landmark often featured in filming productions. Or the looming stadiums of Rogers Arena and BC Place, home to hockey, football, soccer and concerts. And finally the False Creek area, which connects Downtown VE to Olympic Village, Granville Island and Yaletown via a bike-friendly, mixed-use seawall.

Connected Neighbourhood

Aside from the False Creek Seawall which stretches all the way to Yaletown & West End in one direction, and Olympic Village & Granville Island in the other direction, the neighbourhood is well-connected to the surrounding city and regional area too. For example, Main-Science World Station connects residents to other communities via the Expo Line. This SkyTrain line runs from Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver to Vancouver’s Commercial Drive, Burnaby, New Westminster and Surrey. Eventually a SkyTrain line is going to be built from Surrey to Langley - further extending the reach of residents to access other areas quickly and efficiently.
