This neighbourhood on the banks of the Fraser River is fast-growing through the development of an area known as the River District. This is a 130-acre commercial and residential development area being master-planned as a community unto itself. The intent is to rival that of Yaletown or Olympic Village by providing a mix of condos & townhomes, along with the commercial services and lifestyle amenities to support this new residential area. Sharing in the bounty of Champlain Heights & Fraserview

Just across Marine Drive - which is the northern boundary of the South Marine neighbourhood - are neighbourhoods like Champlain Heights, Fraserview & Sunset. These neighbourhoods are a similar mix of both detached, single-family homes and attached homes like condos or townhomes. There’s also amenities within these neighbourhoods which are close enough to South Marine they absolutely deserve a mention. For example, the Fraserview Golf Course, a public 18-hole golf course operated by the City of Vancouver. Or Everett Crowley Park, the fifth-largest park in Vancouver, located in Champlain Heights. There are also nearby schools, such as David Oppenheimer Elementary School.

Life along the Fraser River

South Marine runs along a stretch of the Fraser River’s north bank as it flows into the Pacific Ocean. This river has played a significant role in Vancouver’s history, and an important role in the history of Indigenous people for thousands of years. The South Marine neighbourhood is situated along this vital river and slowly planners have added parks and walking routes along the river as part of a long term commitment to bring life back to the Fraser. And - lurking in the muddy water of the river - is a species of sturgeon known for its long life and impressive size. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to see it!
