Support for renters and landlords, the latest statistics being reported are truly humbling and something to be kept in mind for existing and new landlords alike.
With evictions banned, up to 45 per cent of B.C. tenants in some buildings did not pay rent April 1 and about 30 per cent of all Alberta tenants also failed to pay rent on time. In Saskatchewan, 27 per cent of tenants did not pay rent April 1.

We are finding at our brokerage that these numbers are not representative of what we are experiencing as we have a much lower incident rate of less than 2% of total tenancies currently. We are currently looking to new rent deferral agreements as a way to insure our clients are still owed rent albeit at a later date. This is a means to ensure a degree of flexibility for our tenants, many of which have been certainly impacted! Support for renters and landlords, both are very much needed at this time.
