This has been a year like no other, and as it comes to a close, it gives us a chance to look back and be thankful for what we have as we continue to do our best to carry on with our tasks. We’re thankful you continue to trust us as your property management company and put your faith in our team. It’s our job to be here for you and provide relief and support with all of your real estate service needs.
2020 has been a wild year with ever changing real estate dynamics here in the Vancouver area. Showing restrictions, virtual tours, face masks, and spatial distancing are now the standard. We experienced a full lockdown, and yet, at the same time, we witnessed near record levels of real estate sale transactions during the summer. Interest rates were dropped to just 0.25% by the Bank of Canada, and this is reflecting on mortgage rates accordingly.
With this said, we are going to continue to monitor changes and policy decisions that may impact you, our valued clientele. Examples below are just a sample of some of the policies we are focused on.
- In March, the Ministry of Housing of BC announced a banning of rent increase. This ban has recently been extended until at least July 10th of 2021.
- On November 25th, the City of Vancouver announced that as of January 2021, the empty homes tax will be increased to 3%.
- The Canadian Federal Government has also just announced that they too will be looking to ‘tax foreign buyers who live outside of Canada’ but details are still yet to be determined at this stage.
This year has certainly been unlike any we’ve experienced, but one thing remains the same – we value and appreciate your business.
